Filming Progress

St. Giles church, right by our alley way.
Our group have now filmed the main scenes to our opening sequence. All the outside shots have been filmed, and due to our prelim experience, we have made sure there is enough footage to ensure there are no jump cuts. We have also managed to film the shots inside the kidnapper's house. All this filming was done on 28/02/2012 .. We met in Laura's at 9am to do the kidnapper's house scenes, then again in Town at 5.30 to begin our night scenes. I think our kidnapper got carried away when throwing the bag over my head, as many near passing out experiences happened!

Our original filming schedule has not been kept too, as we decided to take advantage of other groups cancelling their time with the camera. This has meant we've had more chances to get the shots we need. Also, our camera angle plans etc have not been kept to, this has mainly been because once we get behind the camera our creativity kicks in, and directions from Laura, Rhian and Lauren change every five minutes.

Shot List and Shooting Schedule

Shot list composed by our director -
Lauren Owens!
Shooting schedule - Let's hope we stick to it!

The shooting of Missed Calls will hopefully be done in four days. This is an optamistic vision, but there are plans in place if we do need the extra time! We plan to film the scenes in the kidnapper's house first, because this can be done during lesson time and is going to be the more simple sequences to film. This should prepare us for the more difficult scenes later on. Secondly we plan to film the night scenes. This is going to take place over two nights, as it is unlikely we will have enough time to set up, and film all the scenes during one night, as our lighting will be an issue. Lastly, we will book a session in the T.V. studio to film the scene once Sarah has been kidnapped, this is because our skills should have fully developed, so we will have the ability to film more intense sequences and get the emotions across by then - hopefully!

The Pitch

We did a pitch for 'Missed Calls' to the rest of our AS Media Class and our class Tutor. The group supported our ideas, and gave us some good feedback. In our pitch, we decided not to include too many details, as we want our finished product to have more of an affect upon our viewing audience.

Feedback from our peers.

Laura made a powerpoint ot assist us with our pitch to the class, here are some of the slides:

Resources: Costume, Props, Location and Cast

Costume
The costume ideas differ depending upon the character.
Sarah will be dressed up, as though she is going on a night out for the majority of the sequence. However, when secret pictures are taken of her, she will be dressed in smart-casual, everyday wear. The character 'Him' will be wearing a dark hooded jacket when he is on screen, to keep him hidden from the audience.

The dress Sarah will wear.

Props

  • Laptop (Facebook)
  • A room - for the picture wall
  • A sack
  • A camera and pictures

Location
We will be using alley ways in Wrexham town for most of the sequence. This will be made possible due to the fact there will be no dialogue in the sequence.
Alleyway where kidnap takes place
Main street, where Sarah is seen leaving her friends

Casting
Sarah Williams - Lowri Williams
'Him' - Alex Davies
Dave Jones- No casting is needed, as he will not be shown during the opening sequence
Sarah's Friends - Rhian Kelly and Laura Jenkins

We decided to use myself to play Sarah as we were looking for a teenage girl with red hair, and a similar fashion sense to the actress Emma Stone. We chose Emma stone as a person to model our character on, as she has been in many films which have been popular with our target audience, such as Superbad. Alexs was chosen to play 'Him' - or the kidnapper - as he fitted with the mysterious, dangerous feeling we needed to achieve from this role.

Missed Calls - Storyboard

We have decided to call our film 'Missed Calls'. the reasoning behind this is that 'Sarah', our main character misses a phone call, which could have prevented her from being kidnapped.

No. 2
No. 1

No. 3
Here is our storyboard. It shows the basic idea behind the opening sequence to Missed Calls. The story is about a girl who gets kidnapped by a jealous ex boyfriend, we will be using crime conventions such as having an obvious 'bad guy' and a victim. However we will be using modern technologies such as Facebook to make the story more relevant to today's society.

Market Research & Questionnaire

Our Group did some primary research in the form of a questionnaire. We asked 10 questions to the rest of our media class to gain an understanding of what people like/don't like about films.

The pictures show the questions we asked and what people answered.

Graph I created to show the results.

From our research we were able to find out that most people would watch a film about a kidnapping. We also found that people rarely go to the cinema, as they find it is expensive, but if they do go, it's usually on a Wednesday. This is because there is a special offer on, on a Wednesday. It was also positive to find that many people enjoy watching films about romance, so our film, which shows how love can become a dangerous obsession will hopefully interest many people. The key thing we found is that the first scene needs to be the most exciting. By building up the tension toward the kidnapping at the end of the opening titles, we hope to keep the audience interested.

Production and Distribution

The production company plays a key part in the creation of a film, and many main roles. Some of these include;
       - The funding of the film
       - Spending, and control of finance
       - Key ideas
       - Script involvement
       - Organisation of film

The distribution company has roles that include, organising the release of the film, how it will be distributed and marketed, they promote the film, and deal with the delivery to the cinema. There are two main types of Distribution company, Major Studio; e.g. Universal, and Independent; e.g. Working   Title

For our film we decided to advertise on social network sites to get people talking, before then showing the film in the cinema. Using this type of media source (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc) will help us gain the interest of our target audience, and hopefully from an independent distribution company.

We considered looking into gaining the interest of a major studio distribution company, but we understand that they are only likely to be interested if our budget was higher, or we had more famous actors. As a group we have decided to call our production company 'Original Productions'. Our target audience is 15 - 24, and our film will be representing teenagers. After looking at how the BBFC go about placing age restrictions on films, my group had decided our film will be best being a 15 rating, this way we will reach our target/represented audience.
